Cinderella never had to deal with this crap.

Jane isn't entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn't she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Meanwhile, Jane is busy waiting on her demanding, entitled sisters, running her cleaning business, and . . . yep, not a prince in sight. Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes---or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire---maybe do exist.

Except Brock Wellington isn't anyone's dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk---even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it's karmic retribution that he's tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can't have. But while they can't have a fairy-tale ending, maybe they can indulge in a little bit of fantasy . .

The Bachelor Auction was a cutesy contemporary with a fun Cinderella twist! Plain Jane and boring Brock have lived their lives trying to please their families even at the expense of their own happiness. They have both been living this way for so long that it just comes as second nature at this point. Jane slaves herself in order to keep her sisters happy and Brock has agreed to be auctioned off by his grandfather! The only thing that snaps these two out of the “serve others” trance they’ve been under for years, is having met each other and they’re now willing to risk everything to be together.

I loved catching the hints at the Cinderella story we have all come to know and love! Her sisters were such jerks that I was glad poor Jane didn’t have to deal with an evil stepmother on top of it all. Although I didn’t really understand how the whole auction concept was supposed to fix the Wellington family’s business problems, this book had such a fun flair to it that those details didn’t really bother me. I stopped trying to make sense of it and just enjoyed the cheesy love scenes and Brock’s hilarious twin brothers. I’m looking forward to the rest of the books in The Bachelors of Arizona series which will hopefully have a lot more of Brock’s brothers Brant and Bentley!

If you’re not looking for anything too serious and are in the mood for a fluffy romance wrapped in some major LOL moments, then pick this one up today!

What do you do when your soul mate marries your best friend?

If you're Kate Evans, you keep your friend Rachel, bond with her kids, and bury your feelings for her husband. The fact that Shane's in the military and away for long periods helps-but when tragedy strikes, everything changes.

After Rachel, pregnant with her fourth child, dies in a car accident and the baby miraculously survives, Kate upends her entire life to share parenting duties. Then on the first anniversary of Rachel's death, Kate and Shane take comfort in each other in a night that they both soon regret.

Shane's been angry for a year, and now he feels guilty too - for sleeping with his wife's best friend and liking it . . . liking her. Kate's ability to read him like a book may have once sent Shane running, but their lives are forever entwined and they are growing closer.

Now with Shane deployed for seven months, Kate is on her own and struggling with being a single parent. Shane is loving and supportive from thousands of miles away, but his homecoming brings a betrayal Kate never saw coming. So Kate's only choice is to fight for the future she deserves - with or without Shane. . .

Shane and Kate have known each other since they were teenagers and she’s been mad crushing since. He, on the other hand, has never seen Kate in that way and has actually allowed her feelings to push him away. Over the years, they’ve gone from being best friends to barely on speaking terms. With Shane being on active duty in the military, he can really use all the help he can get to try and give his kids a sense of normalcy after having lost their mother. Kate and the kids have grown a special bond over the years and nobody is better qualified for the job than her. But with so much tension and mixed emotions, what could possibly go wrong?

I absolutely loved Kate’s character! Sure, I wanted to hit her upside the head with her own book at times, but she just has a heart of gold and I couldn’t hate her for that. I loved seeing how much she cared for those little ones and how much they loved her back. I’m the only girl out of my siblings who doesn’t have children of her own and I could really relate to her on the “aunt Kate” moments. I, too, am a proud member of the “spare car seat” club! With such a selfless attitude and the constant ability to want to please others, she’s easily a character that you’ll really find yourself rooting for.

However, Kate was only one half of the couple. The other half was Shane, and oh boy did he work my nerve! Going into this book I expected him to be a broken man who’s lost his wife at the age of 29 and is surprised by his sudden feelings for her best friend. I really wish the book summary had at least mildly prepared me for the virtual reality slap heading my way! I can’t think of the last villain I hated as much as I did Shane and the problem is he’s meant to be the male protagonist of this story! He was just so entitled and such an asshole that I just knew early on he would not be my cup of tea. There was no redeeming him in my eyes and I badly wanted a a random love interest, someone who was worthy of Kate, to come barging in and sweep her off her feet.

The supporting characters were incredible! I loved the feeling of a tight, dysfunctional, but tight family. This was a blended family that really worked and their closeness felt very realistic. As I was reading Unbreak My Heart I found myself wanting to get more of their stories. Needless to say, I was over the moon when I realized the second book in this duology, Change of Heart, would be based on Anita and Bram!

As for the writing, I wish the author had done a better job at transitioning between the chapters. One chapter would end in a heated argument and the next would pick up with birds chirping like nothing had ever happened and that was extremely frustrating. I was still angry with Shane for jerk move #24 and I expected Kate to also be enraged. It took me a while to realize that although only mere seconds had passed for me between the ending of one chapter and the beginning of the next, Kate had had a few days to cool off.

Nicole Jacquelyn‘s way of describing the heart wrenching moments was something really special! I love a book that makes me feel and this book really did that. I found myself crying, cursing, laughing, and angrily hitting my kindle to read the next page. (True story! lol) The only reason I couldn’t love this book more is Shane, but I look forward to checking out other books by Jacquelyn in the future!

Sienna Murphy never does anything without a plan. And so far her plans have been working. Right after college, she got a prestigious job and gained the stability she'd always craved-until work takes her to the sun-drenched shores of Oahu and places her in the path of sexy surfer Luke Everett. For the first time, she lets her heart take control. Drawn to his carefree charm, she makes a spontaneous and very un-Sienna-like decision to drop everything and stay in Hawaii for two more weeks.

Luke lives fast and wild. When he meets Sienna, he's convinced that some no-strings-attached fun is just what she needs. As their nights quickly turn from playful to passionate, Luke can't deny the deep connection he feels. But there's a reason Luke doesn't do long-term. He can't promise Sienna forever, when the enormity of his past has shown him just how fragile the future can be . . .

This story is told from the alternating POVs of Sienna, a 22 yr old successful event coordinator from California, and Luke, a 24 year old surfer/thrill seeker living in Hawaii. The two meet while Sienna is working a wedding in Oahu, Hawaii! I’ve been wanting to travel to Hawaii for what seems like forever now so I was really excited to read all about it!

After meeting Luke, Sienna knows that just a couple of hours is not nearly enough time and she makes the decision to cash in on her saved up vacation time. She decides to stay an extra 2 weeks and make the most out of her time getting to know Luke better.

Side Note: Coincidentally, right before I started reading this book I had been obsessing over the Investigation Discovery channel so I could’ve sworn Sienna’s body was going to wash up on shore and a big murder mystery would ensue! ha ha

Spoiler Alert: No such murder occurs and Sienna lives!

I was able to extremely relate to their love story because I too have dated the guy I met while on vacation and extended my visit! Having said that, I couldn’t really connect to the characters themselves. Sienna seemed to only value herself by the size of her bank account and few things put me off in a person more than that. As for Luke, I didn’t really get what the big deal was with him being a thrill seeker. That part of the plot was heavily played up and it just didn’t seem like anything too crazy. He was skydiving, for God’s sake, not jumping off a plane while wearing a Target grocery bag for a parachute.

I honestly think I would’ve enjoyed The Moment of Letting Go a lot more if it hadn’t dragged on for so long with nothing really happening. However, if you’re the kind of reader that likes tons of detail than this might be a cute contemporary that you’d enjoy!

One long, hot summer would never be enough...

Attorney Hannah Sterling lives a life she's worked hard for. So when she unexpectedly inherits an inn, Hannah decides to take that long overdue holiday and settle her eccentric grandmother's estate. She knew there would be challenges, but what's hardest about returning to Mirabelle, Florida, is facing the man who gave her the most passionate summer of her life-and then broke her heart.

Nathanial Shepard never forgot the redheaded goddess who lit up his world and got away. Now that she's home, Shep vows to make up for their years apart-and if the fire in her kiss is any indication, they're well on their way. But when a devastating secret from their past threatens their future, Shep must fight to heal Hannah's heart. Because this time, their love will truly be unforgettable...

My friend Asheley of Into the Hall of Books has been recommending Shannon Richard’s Country Road series to me for some time now and I’m happy to report she’s doing it with GOOD reason.

Unforgettable is sexy and emotional and fun! Shannon Richard has given an emotional story of first love with characters you will instantly love and feel empathy for. I, myself, was teary eyed by the end of the prologue. The trend continued throughout the book, let me tell you, but I also laughed quite a bit and REALLY enjoyed the sexytimes between Hannah and Shep.

I love stories like Hannah and Shep’s. First loves, losing each other then reconnecting after years apart.. SIGH. I loved Shep’s determination to NOT let her go this time around and Hannah’s mostly accurate reservations to even come near him. I loved their connection and how they picked up their friendship liked she’d just been gone a few months and not 13 years. At first it seemed Hannah was a delicate type of character and that she was going to be an emotional drag, but I was so far off base. It did not take her long to get her bearings and showed me the exact opposite. Hannah is strong and confident and really funny. Both her and Shep are good honest people who have gone through so much the last 13 years apart and are now ready for fate and each other.

Those two weren’t the only thing I loved about this story. Since this is the fourth book in the series, we get to see lots of characters that have been in previous books. None of that affected how much I enjoyed the story but it really made me want to pick up all the previous books, like, yesterday. Seriously, it reads perfectly as a standalone. The group of girls in this book is one I can relate to. They reminded me so much of my friends and our little group. They’re funny, caring, and honest. Then there were the guys!! Ohhhh, my. *fans self* I’ve seriously been missing out. There was also great family dynamics. You got to see them struggle and be there for each other, as it should be.

Unforgettable worked really well for me because I cared about Hannah and Shep’s story very much, but I loved the entirety of it: setting, characters, writing. I plan to read the other books in this series VERY soon and I suggest you do the same.

About Shannon Richard

Shannon Richard grew up in the Panhandle of Florida as the baby sister of two overly protective but loving brothers. She was raised by a more than somewhat eccentric mother, a self-proclaimed vocabularist who showed her how to get lost in a book, and a father who passed on his love for coffee and really loud music. She graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s in English literature and still lives in Tallahassee, where she battles everyday life with writing, reading, and a rant every once in a while. Okay, so the rants might happen on a regular basis. She’s still waiting for her Southern, scruffy Mr. Darcy, and in the meantime writes love stories to indulge her overactive imagination. Oh, and she’s a pretty big fan of the whimsy.

Love is the Biggest Gamble of All...

Cocktail waitress Sophie Dalton doesn't exactly have a life plan. She's perfectly happy being everyone's favorite party girl. But when a Las Vegas bachelorette party goes awry and an uptight businessman mistakes Sophie for a prostitute . . . well, Sophie wonders if it's time to reevaluate her priorities. Swearing off her thigh-high boots for good, Sophie slinks back home with damaged pride-and a jackpot of a hangover.

Yet what happens in Vegas doesn't always stay there. On a trip to Seattle to open a new office, Grayson Wyatt meets his latest employee-who turns out to be the same woman he recently called a hooker. Wealthy and gorgeous, Gray is a man used to getting what he wants. And it doesn't take long to figure out that smart, sassy, sexy Sophie is everything he's been looking for. As their late nights at the office turn into hot morning-afters, they realize their Vegas misunderstanding may lead to the real thing...

First thing I want to mention about Only with You by Lauren Layne is the amount of laughter it brought into my life. I swear I giggled through most of it but I straight up busted out laughing out loud at other times. It was just a delight!

As if getting mistaken for a prostitute (and turned down!) isn’t bad enough, having that same man show up at your parents house for family dinner as your sister’s date might completely kill you. Sophie was sweet, if a bit lost in life. She rolls with the punches and tries to make the best out of situations. Of course, her new boss, and said man who confused her for a prostitute, makes it a little tougher for her. Gray certainly doesn’t get Sophie, sometimes he seems to straight up hate her, but he sure is attracted to her! Their little back and forth digs at each other made for a really entertaining read. They had great chemistry and tension together. And once Gray lets his guard down and opens up he’s just lovely. *happy sigh*

Also!! Sophie has the best guy friend who is a bit of a player and is totally hilarious. I don’t think Lauren Layne was trying to hide where that story line was going, but it must be said that I called it pretty early on. But it was only the beginning and I CANNOT wait to see how everything unfolds in the next book. After Sophie and Gray stop fighting one another’s attractions things get pretty hot and heavy fast.

I thought the end was emotional and the epilogue ended this story on a fun and sweet note. Overall a great fun read!

JUST ONE MORE KISS

There's no place like home for the holidays. And the Lucky Harbor Bed & Breakfast is bursting with festive lights and good cheer. But for Mia, Christmas is turning out to be anything other than merry and bright. Her recent break-up with her boyfriend Nick has made her return bittersweet. But then a surprise arrives, when Nick follows her to town bearing gifts-and asking for forgiveness.

Nick grew up without a family of his own so he's overwhelmed by the love that Mia receives from all her relatives, gathered together to celebrate the season. Under their watchful eyes, Nick finds earning back her trust the hardest thing he's ever had to do. If he succeeds, he will receive the greatest gift of all, Mia's love for a lifetime.

Ever since meeting Mia in book two of the Lucky Harbor series, The Sweetest Thing, I’ve had a soft spot for her in my heart. Under the Mistletoe gives us a great glimpse into the amazing woman Mia has become over the years. AND! She has a hottie kind of boyfriend…she’s not really sure if she can officially call him that though, as they’ve never really talked about it.

I loved the connection between Mia and Nick. They had great chemistry and had a lot in common. I wasn’t sure if I could 100% trust him with Mia’s heart though…but he soon proved he wasn’t a jerk after all.

I enjoyed getting to visit my favorite three sisters, the ones that started it all, Maddie, Tara, and Chloe…also Sawyer. *swoons* He’s still my favorite Lucky Harbor guy.

It was great getting to see Mia get a happy ending and also really great to visit my favorite Lucky Harbor peeps. If you’re looking to revisit, this novella does the trick.

Breaking rules and breaking hearts

Free-spirited Chloe lives life on the edge. Unlike her soon-to-be married sisters, she isn't ready to settle into a quiet life running their family's newly renovated inn. But soon her love of trouble—and trouble with love-draws the attention of the very stern, very sexy sheriff who'd like nothing better than to tame her wild ways.

Suddenly Chloe can't take a misstep without the sheriff hot on her heels. His rugged swagger and his enigmatic smile are enough to make a girl beg to be handcuffed. For the first time, instead of avoiding the law, Chloe dreams of surrender. Can this rebel find a way to keep the peace with the straitlaced sheriff? Or will Chloe's colorful past keep her from a love that lasts . . . and the safe haven she truly wants in a town called Lucky Harbor?

It’s been almost a year in Lucky Harbor since Chloe moved in to the inn with her sisters. And during that time, Chloe has matured from the reckless, wild child sister, into a very caring person. She no longer just thinks about herself, but considers how her actions reflect on her family and business.

I really liked that Chloe grew up, on her own, before a romance between her and Sawyer started. There had always been attraction there, but she was not ready to be with a man like him. And oh man, how I loved Sawyer. I loved his quiet strength, his huge, sweet heart, and let us not forget his sexy looks. I think I loved him more than Ford from the previous book, and Ford was hard to beat. I loved that it was such a build-up for these two. They couldn’t stand each other when they first met, then the attraction started, then somewhat of a friendship. When they finally give in to all that pent up attraction though, it was like fireworks! They were also a really fun couple when they were together; a lot of flirting and teasing. There were also some scary moments though, what with Sawyer being a cop and all, and also with Chloe’s severe asthma.

We get to see Maddie and Tara and Jax and Ford in this one. Their relationships are still going strong. It was fun seeing their takes on Chloe and Sawyer though. Of course, the guys tease Sawyer about it, but the girls think Chloe should not start anything with him. Not because they don’t love Sawyer, but because they think Chloe and him are too opposite. The thing is though, they’re the most alike than any of the other couples, they just don’t realize it right away.

This was my favorite Lucky Harbor book so far. Like the previous two, it was funny, sweet, and sexy, which really is the best combination when reading Contemporary Romance.

Love awaits you in Lucky Harbor . . .

Simply Irresistible
After losing her boyfriend and her job, Maddie leaves L.A. to claim her inheritance-a ramshackle inn nestled in the little town of Lucky Harbor, Washington. She sees the potential for a new home and a new career-if she can give the inn the makeover it needs. Enter Jax, a tall, handsome contractor who knows exactly what Maddie needs…

The Sweetest Thing
Helping her sister set up the family inn is just the thing to make Tara forget her ex-husband and focus on her new life. Until she meets a sexy, green-eyed sailor determined to keep her hot, bothered, and in his bed. When her ex reappears, Tara must confront her past and decide what she really wants. If the sisters are lucky, they might just find that everything their hearts desire is right here in Lucky Harbor.

I was really in the mood for a holiday read, so when I stumbled upon the Christmas in Lucky Harbor cover, I was instantly sold. This is actually two books in one, which was even better!

Right off the bat, Jill Shalvis had me cracking up in Simply Irresistible. Maddie is one very funny lady. Could any one person run into any more embarrassing bad luck in a new town?! Luckily, our boy Jax found her endearing. Maddie and Jax had a very strong attraction to each other very quickly. I loved how tender Jax was with her. He definitely made me swoon with his chivalry.

I really enjoyed getting to know the town of Lucky Harbor. From the pier, to the inn, it all seemed like a place I’d love to visit. The residents of Lucky Harbor were very colorful. It’s always fun when they all get involved in your personal business…ok, maybe not always convenient, but sometimes they see what’s best for you better than you can. Maddie’s sisters, Tara and Chloe, were a little harder to love from the get go. It took some warming up, not so much with Chloe, but with Tara. I thought she was too harsh sometimes, but by the end of the book I was wishing all three were my sisters. We also get to meet Jax’s best friends, funny guy Ford and the sexy, stern sheriff, Sawyer. If all small towns have dudes like these three, I’m moving out of the big city! :)

After finishing Simply Irresistible I was ready to see what the deal was with Ford and Tara in The Sweetest Thing. I kind of figured it out in the first book, but I wanted the juicy details. This story takes place six months after the ending of the first book, and we see how far along the inn renovations are, which was very exciting! In those six months, Ford has given Tara some space, but he’s now done. Only problem is that Tara’s ex also wants her back. It was really fun seeing these two guys try to outdo each other, but I did like that Tara wasn’t with both of them. She knew all along who her heart wanted to be with.

Mia was certainly a surprise! I definitely wasn’t expecting her character to show up. I am glad she did though because I think it’s what solidified the feelings between Tara and Ford.

I ended up liking Ford more than Jax. Ford was just…more, in everything. He was the perfect counterpart for Tara. And I loved getting into Tara’s head and heart. I really thought I wouldn’t like her because of her tough exterior, but I ended up really caring about her.

I found the the quotes at the beginning of each chapter very fun. Some were sweet, some inspirational, and some just plain funny. Let me show you some!

From Phoebe Traeger in Simply Irresistible:
“Learn from others’ mistakes. You don’t have enough time to make them all yourself.”

“Remember, it’s always better to be the smartass rather than the dumbass.”

From Tara Daniels in The Sweetest Thing:
“Good judgment comes from bad experience. Unfortunately, most of that comes from bad judgment.”

“Never do anything that you don’t want to have to explain to 9-1-1 personnel.”

Both books were a great example of what I love in Contemporary Romance novels, they were funny, mostly light, and sexy. Although only the first takes place around Christmas time, I still enjoyed the atmosphere and Lucky Harbor is a place I hope to revisit very soon. Actually, I look forward to reading a lot more than just Lucky Harbor books from Jill Shalvis. I’m already looking into her other books!

So this past week I read and fell head over heels for the first two books in the Lucky Harbor series….totally LOVED!! I am so glad the next one is almost out because I am so ready to read more about our sexy sheriff, Sawyer. Bring it!!
